Egg Saves £300K with Full Digital Transformation

BACKGROUND

We helped Egg save more than £300K a year by delivering a full digital transformation.

The clean energy company had recently pivoted from serving consumers to focusing solely on the B2B market, scaling rapidly with bold growth plans and a high‑velocity operating model.

But the business was being slowed down by enterprise systems that had been built by engineers rather than solution lead, and they weren’t aligned with the company’s wider strategy.

Egg needed clear advice and technology that could support the business at a critical stage of growth. That’s when they came to 1101.

CHALLENGE

Egg operated with a 3‑person internal IT team responsible for an enterprise‑level setup that did not match the size or needs of the business.

More than 20 disconnected systems were used across the business, reporting was stitched together manually in spreadsheets, and critical systems such as CRM, operational delivery, email and finance had no integration. Licensing and subscriptions alone cost around £400,000 per year.

IT decisions were being driven by security preference and technical opinion rather than operational value, and senior decision makers were held at length, and not involved in shaping how systems were designed.

At the same time, Egg was shifting from a mixed B2B and B2C model to a purely B2B focus. This change required far clearer sales visibility, stronger delivery processes and tighter financial control. But the existing systems simply could not support this.

SOLUTION

We onboarded Egg as a managed service client to get to know them better, understand their culture, and day-to-day operations, then reshaped their entire technology stack with a business‑first mindset.

  • Discovery workshop: We began with structured workshops involving senior leadership. Together, we mapped the end‑to‑end processes, highlighted friction points, defined what “good” looks like for a B2B‑led business, and removed any steps that added complexity without value. This reset the conversation from tools and features to outcomes and value.

  • Application rationalisation: With a clear operational picture, we were able to rationalise the application estate, reducing more than twenty systems down to a core suite of five. Rather than replacing everything, we retained and refined the tools that still made sense, while adding something to improve operational management.

  • CRM simplification: HubSpot had been heavily customised and difficult to use. We reset it to a clear, minimal B2B‑ready version by removing unnecessary stages, cleaning up account structures, improving pipeline clarity and making reporting and forecasting useful again.

  • Operational integration with PSO hub: We introduced PSO Hub to replace the previous project delivery tool and connected it directly to HubSpot. This meant one seamless workflow, from Lead → Opportunity → Project Delivery.

  • Finance modernisation with Xero: Working alongside Gravitate, we brought financial control back in‑house by replacing manual spreadsheets with Xero. This created automated flow from project delivery to invoicing, reliable bank reconciliation, and clean and consistent financial reporting.

  • Security alignment: We simplified the security frameworks so they aligned with Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus.

  • Strategic IT partnership: As part of the wider transformation, we stepped in under our TeamCare Premium managed service to deliver strategic IT direction, technical account management, roadmapping and budget planning, and proactive support and optimisation. IT is now a strategic partner rather than a standalone function.

RESULT

The transformation has given Egg a lean, integrated and commercially focused technology stack that now fuels growth rather than holding it back.

Annual licensing and subscription costs have fallen dramatically, dropping from around £400K to roughly £50–60K. The business now operates on just 5 tightly connected platforms instead of 20, creating a seamless end‑to‑end workflow from CRM through to finance.

Reporting is no longer reliant on manual spreadsheets, leadership has clear and reliable pipeline visibility, and security is aligned to the right standards without being over‑engineered.

Overall, technology is now fully aligned to Egg’s commercial goals, giving the team the ability scale with confidence.

Paul Almond, Leader of Egg, said:

“As a business shifting quickly into B2B, we needed clarity, control and a tech stack that matched our ambition. 1101 helped us achieve exactly that. It’s been a fundamental reset for how we manage and grow the company.”
